Default northgeorgiaweather.com gets an overhaul

Today I launched an overhauled version of northgeorgiaweather.com. Most of the work was done under-the-hood in an attempt to provide, again more accurate/faster refreshes of the data coming in off of the weather station.

I still have a few pages(almanac & advisories)/bugs to iron-out, but in my testing it's a much more reliable method of getting the data to a web page. Now I'm using PHP to pull most of the data from a txt file that's ftp'd every few seconds (instead of the weather software rendering entire pages then uploading---baahh!). Hey I need all the bandwidth I can squeeze out with the web cams running; with the lake cam, weather station, feedmecam, & family/friends currently sharing the same 10MB cable connection, browsing can resemble dial-up on busy cam days.

Please feel free to leave any questions, comments, complaints or bug reports here...

Default Re: northgeorgiaweather.com gets an overhaul

Aside from a few design bugs, it's pretty much finished. Here are a few of the upgrades:

Added "NWS AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION" to the bottom of the NWS forecast page. This can be a long read but really helps you see (in text) what's coming up next.

Moved all weather maps to a single page. Choose any "Additional Weather Maps" under the main radar map and click "Animated OFF" (which toggles it "ON", top of map) to animate them all.

Added daily reports, allowing access to any day's weather data in Blue Ridge from the past ~year. There are still a few bugs involved in the data conversion. I'm going to try to refine this down-the-road to allow for database searching, like "show me the temp in BR on Jun 7, 2007", or "show all days over 90 degrees last year", etc.

Added NOAA monthly climatological summaries. Great historical data, format hasn't changed in 20+ years. I used to have to go the GA Tech Library to obtain these reports and laboriously photocopy stacks and stacks; the construction scheduling company I worked for used the data to estimate the number of bad weather days in a given city for a given season. I'm also looking to expand the reach of these reports.

I'll also be bringing the lightning detector back online shortly with hopefully a better web interface. Additionally the lake is almost lapping at our dock, so I should be able to bring the lake water temp sensor back online again soon as well.
