Thumbs down New York Diner - Restaurant Review

One of the many reasons for wanting the alcohol referendum to have passed was the desire for a greater selection of eating establishments in Fannin County. Well since the religious zealots of this county chose to leave their heads buried in their hymnals, we the residents must suffer and endure with the status quo and the plate set before us...pun intended.

With that said, after eating at the new establishment in Blairsville, Fatz, I heard about a Blairsville online forum where there were posts regarding restaurants and patrons experience (both good and bad) after eating at the various establishments. I thought it a good idea that the NGAforum start providing this type of service and information.

My wife and I used to frequent the New York Diner (breakfast only) when under prior management. It wasn't until one day I noted that the health inspection score was not posted and/or non-existent along with water dripping from "unknown source" onto the counter from the hotel above, that we stopped eating there.

Well the business changed ownership and from the outside looked to have cleaned up a bit, so we decided to give it a second chance... But you cant judge a book by it's cover....

The service was GREAT. Coffee cup stayed full, waitress was very friendly. But that's about where it stops. While sitting at the table I observed one roach crawling on the wall and killed another under my table. The health score was "84" with one noted item being open food containers... With roaches crawling around in "daylight hours" I can only imagine what happens under the cover of darkness...

Later that day both my wife and I became very ill with what we can only assume was food poisoning! Of course it is hard to prove this type of sickness without the actual food that was eaten, but the timing of both us having eaten there and the unsanitary condition that was noted... only leads us to believe that this was the source of our sickness.

Bottom line...once again we will no longer be eating at the New York Diner.
