I have been a frequent browser on the Fannin County Property Appraisers website for as long as it has been available to the public. I am not a real estate professional, just a part time resident who likes to see what real estate transactions are taking place in her neighborhood. Until February 15th all information was available to the site user at no cost. Since that date, anything beyond a basic search requires a subscription at a substantial cost:
PRICING PER COUNTY: 1 user - $15/mo or $120/yr with no maps (GIS)* 1 user - $20/mo or $180/year with maps (GIS)* 2-4 users - $30/mo or $300/yr** 5-12 users - $60/mo or $600/yr** 12 - 25 users - $120/mo or $1200/yr** ONE Month Only - a one-time charge of $30 Fannin County Tax Assessor's Office I have visited many property appraiser websites and none of them have ever charged for what is basically public information. What's going on in Fannin?? |

Same here. I'm consider myself to be an investor in Fannin County real estate. I own 2 lots and am about to close on a third. I pay taxes on those lots and those taxes pay the assessor to collect that information.
All over the country, county assessor's offices have gone to the web to publish this very PUBLIC information. We have a right to know this. I suggest that if this bothers you, then start calling the county assessor's office and asking for the same information. Tell them that you wouldn't be bothering them if it was available online once again. |

It is hard enough being a real estate agent in this rough housing time, now they want to add another expense for us by charging for public information! $180.00 per year is a lot of money! Fannin's site does not have many homes listed by address, so a search by that criteria is almost impossible! And their GIS system needs some serious updating! Gilmer and Union are using the same system, and they are not charging for this information. Does Fannin County need that extra revenue that bad? (Probably!) I think every real estate agent in Fannin should stop by the county clerk's office every time they need a plat or a tax record, etc. for their listings and sales, just to let them know how they have effected us!

So if you call Fannin County's Assessors office, they say it's not them, call qpublic and ask them why you have to pay to get access to public information.
But if you call qpublic, their explanation is much more reasonable, they charge a flat fee for free access for everyone, and Fannin County refuses to pay it. I guess it's not too much for Union or Gilmer to pay, but poor ole Fannin, with all that Lake Blue Ridge tax money can't afford to pay it. But Union has no problem with providing this service to their taxpayers. It's time to redirect our focus on the county commission. |

I don't understand why Fannin continues to resist becoming part of the 21st century...
Their property appraiser website was as good as any in the country -- actually better than some. Now, they're back to backwoods... |

It takes a while for the New Observer to reach us down here in S. Florida. Just read the article re the subscription service. Seems like Fannin Co. has coughed up the $6500 annual fee; full access is once again available to all.
