Proof that if you give businesses the opportunity to succeed then they will seize it was made clear to me today when I became aware of the fact that since beer and wine pouring license was approved last Tuesday over 20 offers have been made for the Cabin Grille facility. Some of the names listed in my conversation included Cracker Barrel, Applebee's and Longhorns. When asked about whether or not a facility like those would really consider opening a restaurant in a place like this I was told that they would if there was the potential for growth in the area and the potential for eventual liquor pouring license.
Now If I can just get a sports bar..err...grill or perhaps an irish pub......ah that would be the life. |

This is what we need in downtown Blue Ridge. A Blues bar, a jazz bar and the Irish pub. These would be places where friends can gather(Cheers).
Can you imagine how busy the downtown would be with the above three items. We have local talent that could play these venues, instead of having to go out of town. No honky tonks or strip joints allowed. Wildman

Maybe the affected business owners need to put the pressure on the State Legislature to review or dissolve the City of Blue Ridge's City Charter due to them constantly trying to retard business growth, as well as all of the other issues going on. Or push for a consolidated city-county government like some other cities in Georgia have (Athens-Clarke County or Columbus-Muscogee County). Putting out some feelers might not hurt.

If only it had passed previously, perhaps the owners (and others) could have held out a bit longer and we wouldn't have chain stuff going in there and elsewhere. I think we told ya so. |

That sucking sound is coming from the Home Depot area. The Home Depot area and the Comfort Inn are checking into being annexed into the County.
The Mayor of Blue (retarded growth) Ridge said they could leave only if he approved it!! According an article in the News Observer, all the property owner has to do is fill out some applications. If the County approves the application the city has no choice but to let them leave the city! Wildman

All hail thee - King Retarded Growth!! Except that instead of reigning from his throne on high, he reigns from his Lazy Boy Recliner located down next to "the pit" ![]() Too bad the "News Observer" doesn't do editorial cartoons - I could just see this scene illustrated! You couldn't make this stuff up! Last edited by john; 12-16-2008 at 10:16 PM. |
