Hello everybody!
Tom McKevitt here. If you weren't at the commission meeting last night you may not know that Howie Bruce and Steve Morris dickered with Marty Kahn and James Bond. They were there to offer statements. Jan Eaton was there, too. She was slated to speak. However, when Jan asked who was in charge of Animal Control, beyond Bruce's saying that responsibility was ultimately his, he refused to say who was in charge of Animal Control at the facility, saying sarcastically that her statement was not to be seen as a "question and answer" session. And Bruce allowed as how anyone wishing to have an answer to that question as to who is in charge at animal Control could visit his office for it. Jan's question as to why her question could not be answered in a public forum was ignored. So there you have it. When some citizens speak at commission meetings, question and answers with commissioners are permitted. When commissioners prefer not to answer questions, questions and answers are prohibited. Jane Gavin was left off the agenda AGAIN. That's twice now. That makes a mockery of the commission's handy plan to traffic citizen speakers at commission meetings. Does anything good come of the commission's arrogant behavior? I'd say yes. Whether in favor of beer/wine by the glassful or in sympathy with animal welfare advocates, those people from Florida, Atlanta and other places around the nation are no longer aloof of social and political situations in Fannin County; they're in commission meeting attendance and they're demanding to be heard. Count on the 'outsiders' to take a more active interest in future elections. Count on some to run for office. The sun is setting on biblical bowdlerism as a form of government in Fannin County.
