For the love of nachos and twizzler sticks can someone please tell me why there are 12 employees at our local tax assessor office who are being paid nearly $60k a year? And for what? It’s not like you have to have a college degree (which I have). All you have to do is take a few courses and bam you’re raking in the big bucks. Now don't get me wrong, I'm all about free market capitalism, but I guarantee you that no one else within the county government or state for that matter even comes close to that salary. And why are there 12 employees? Do they really need that many? Is their performance going to drop off if they lose any of those 12? I know several people who have had their property for decades and it is still listed as undeveloped property on the assessor website. Is this what my huge property tax bill is going to? Its not like I ever see them that often. It just irks me that we're paying 3/4 of a million dollars to have 12 people sit in an office and decide that our property taxes get to increase a little each and every year. And if I argue with them they think that I “protest too much”. Talk about taxation without representation. You say you want a Revolution?!?

I could understand some high salary given the position...if theyre making the value decisions that could cost people thousands of dollars annually...hopefully they would value their job so much they wouldnt be willing to compromise for people they know, people with some extra cash falling out, etc. But 12 full time employees seems a bit many for this county. How about cutting 1 of them and hiring 2 more deputies...or some fire fighters...

I agree with you. It seems to me that 12 people may be a bit much. I think some of that money could go to pay for other personel in agencies that require an increase in personel. Tax Assessors can be one of those "monsters" of government spending, where you are taxed in order to pay for someone to tax you.

Interesting...hate to get someone fired but if theyre already retired...wonder what the story is? are they the supervisor? some lynch pin to the system?

Lynchpin Without A Doubt. Keep In Mind That Not All Of The 60k Per Year Is In Salary. It Also Includes Meals/lodging/transportation For Training. But No Doubt That Some Of Them Are Making 60k+ A Year In Salary(galloway). Also One Of The Assessors Has A Son Running For Sheriff.... Hello Nepotism!

yyyeeeccchhhh....small town politics...half the locals are in the same 3 or 4 families...so is there a citizens govt review committee in the making to ask questions about the hows, whos, whys, and wheres....or would that be adding too much politics to the fire.
