There is a well written article in May, 2008 edition of "Georgia Trend" magazine, (click here to read the story - link is also below) featuring BR and Fannin County. This is a magazine well circulated among Georgia business leadership, so it was nice to see the area get some good press.
The article focuses on the TOURISM and small business/entrepreneurial potential in Fannin for the future. Probably the most profound and telling quote from the whole article from a local small business owner was: "This is definetly a tourist community. The fathers of Fannin County don't know that yet, but we know its our industry. This is no longer the Levi plant. This is no longer logging. Our industry is tourism." So what's it going to take for the "County Fathers" to begin to get it? Of course, the optimist in me knows that this is not that unusual of a situation and everything will sort itself out - in fact, it already is doing that. It's just the process and waiting is never that fun. But of course, if everything was already done, the opportunity factor would be less for everyone.
