Default Re: Tuesday, August 28th Commission Meeting

Well this meeting was nothing like the last. The room was about half-full. The only scheduled speaker regarding liquor by-the-drink was supposed to speak against it and was a no-show.

So we officially go to county-wide referendum on November 6th for the whole Enchilada, or in this case, Margarita. As was brought to my attention tonight, the other side is already starting to mobilize their "get out the vote" drive; they're meeting on 9/21/07 at 7PM at the Appalachian Technical College in Epworth. We'll be doing our own get out the vote, and I will be reporting here on where & when.

The highlight of the meeting was Jane Gavin's appeal to fire or transfer the individual in animal control responsible for killing her dog Rhue. In the 4.5 months since she was "euthanized", this was the first time Jane was allowed to speak publicly to the commissioners (thanks to Tommy Ledford for insisting that she not be deferred again).
