It has been good to hear the commercial on the radio (103.9) for the personal freedom of choice side. The one that I heard was very factual about the benefit of passing this referendum.
Have you seen the large "display" on 5 on the right going north towards McCaysville? A cross with sign "one man can make a difference".... I guess he is comparing himself to Jesus.... Obviously this person does not know much about who the person Jesus really was... Jesus wouldn't put signs up in his yard, Jesus wouldn't be concerned with what I have to drink with my pizza, Jesus could care less whether beer and wine are served in Fannin County restaurants.... What did Jesus say when asked by his disciples about the greatest commandment ... "Love the Lord thy God and secondly Love thy Neighbor". I share this again with anyone who is trying to decide which way to vote. NO WHERE in the Bible does it say "Thou Shalt Not Drink Alcohol". If someone wants to debate this point I will be more than happy to oblige.
And then there is the McCaysville Church of God marquis sign "Making something legal doesn't make it harmless." Yeah....well all I can say to that is "duh". I'm sorry if this offends anyone that might go to this church but that is STUPIDITY at it's best. Guns are legal but are they harmless? NO. Cars are legal to operate but are they harmless? Scissors are legal to own but are they harmless? (just don't run with them in your hand). That statement is full of holes.... just like the holes in the pockets of Fannin County as thousands of dollars in taxes and revenue are lost to neighboring counties. Personal responsibility and freedom of choice is what should be considered.
I read in an earlier post in this forum about this issue not being a religious matter....and I would
totally agree, but unfortunately the opposition is using religion as their basis of argument, and unfortunately as well, the pastors are using the pulpits to manipulate their congregations. I would think the pastors would be all for this referendum. I mean think about it, don't they believe that anyone who drinks has to be "unsaved", and isn't the calling of the church "the great commission" to reach the unsaved. Well passing this referendum will bring them a whole new flock of lost souls to witness to. They wont even have to leave Fannin County. They certainly are not reaching the unsaved with these opposition efforts....quiet the opposite is taking place!! Think about it!!
I like what ricks said "Religion, in the wrong hands, can be a very dangerous thing." Opposition folk....don't drink the koolaid.
